Submission Guidelines
Mundania Press is open for unsolicited submissions during the months of March, April, September, and October each year. During these four months we are seeking top quality entertaining novels, novellas, and short stories from new and previously-published authors from around the world.
Novels are released simultaneously in trade paperback and eBook editions. Short Novels (under 60,000 words), Anthologies, Novellas, and Short Stories are released in eBook edition.
We are closed to unsolicited submissions in January, February, May, June, July, August, November, and December each year. During these months, we only accept submissions from our existing authors or solicited submissions.
Please do not submit during the closed months unless you are an existing Mundania Press or Phaze Books author. Unsolicited submissions and queries will not be considered nor answered during these months. |

- The author has a promotion plan and a willingness to promote the work, such as maintaining an author website, book signings, blogs, list groups, etc.
Helpful hints to get published
- Is your grammar up to the standard of published works?
- How about your knowledge of punctuation?
- Point-of-view correct? No head-hopping allowed within the same paragraph or section. Points of view can change in different scene breaks or chapters.
- Are your transitions smooth?
- The continuity? Does each scene flow naturally, without gaps?
- If you're unsure about some of the answers, we strongly suggest you read more guidance books for writers. We also recommend you seek feedback from other writers in critique groups, writer organizations, workshops and conferences. Help in polishing your craft is out there, much of it available online.
Formatting Your Manuscript
- Use italics for an italicized word.
- Use two dashes (or an em dash) for an em dash.
- For scene breaks, use three asterisks (***) centered on a separate line.
- No other formatting is necessary.
Submitting Your Manuscript
E-mail your complete entire manuscript in RTF format as an email attachment, with an email cover letter to:
In the subject line of your email, put "SUBMISSION - NameOfYourBook". This makes it easier for us to quickly identify it and find it among all the submissions.
Please include all of the following information in your email cover letter (not as a separate attachment):
- The title of your book/story
- Your real name.
- Your pen name (if you want one for the book, otherwise just your real name).
- Your snail-mail address (street, city, state, zip code/mail code, country).
- Your (good, reliable, and current) email address. Without this, we can't communicate with you.
- Specific genre (can be multi-genre—see above).
- Approximate number of words (not number of pages).
- Book blurb: This is the jacket copy for the novel. Two to three paragraphs to catch the reader's attention. If you are unsure, look at the back of a few books to get an idea. This is your one minute commercial to entice someone to want to read your book. if accepted, we'll help create a book blurb that will be most effective in selling the book
- Synopsis: Your plot synopsis is a brief narrative summary of your novel written in the present tense. The purpose of a plot synopsis is to tell us about your story and especially to hook our interest. If your book sounds dull, we will pass on it. Make sure it tells the basics for the entire story. Don't, for example, leave out the story's ending as a gimmick. We don't have time to evaluate gimmicks. You need to get the story essentials across to us, not the descriptive details or the exact dialogue, so write as clearly and tightly as possible. And create the synopsis as a whole, unified piece. Don't break it up with chapter headings. Your synopsis should be no more than a couple of pages at most, preferably one page.
We do not need anything else in your cover letter. Send your email with your complete book/story attached in a separate file in RTF format only.
Notes
- Your manuscript must be one RTF (rich text format) file. Manuscripts submitted in formats other than RTF format will be rejected. Word, WordPerfect, and most word processing programs allow you to SAVE AS an RTF file. Select SAVE AS and choose RTF as the saved format. This will save all your document formatting as well.
- Do not break your manuscript into multiple files. A multiple file submission will be rejected as we require the one file to send to our editors.
- Your email cover letter should contain all the query information, blurb, and synopsis (see above) and be in the body of your email. Do not include this information as an attachment. If you do, it will be rejected automatically. Only your manuscript should be attached to the email (as one RTF file).
- We repeat this, over and over again, because we get dozens of submissions where people are not reading or following our simple guidelines. We receive hundreds of submissions and we have a process in place to handle those. If someone can't or won't bother to follow our guidelines, we just don't have the time to bother with their incomplete or incorrect submission.
- Manuscript lengths. Accepted manuscripts that are 60,000 words or more are released in print and eBook formats. Accepted manuscripts of less than 60,000 words are released in eBook formats only. We can only accept short stories of at least 5,000 words or more.
- Publishing Rights: We require electronic (eBook) and print (paperback) rights for a minimum of three years if we accept your submission. Do not query books where you can only offer us one of these rights.
- Acknowledgement of Receipt: You will receive an automated response indicating that your submission has been received. Please be sure that your return email address is correct as we get a lot of bounced replies.
- The review time is approximately 2-3 months. Times may vary depending on the amount of submissions we receive. You will be notified via email if your novel is accepted or not.
- Questions About Submissions: We have an extensive Submissions Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) page available that should answer most of your questions.
- Should you have any additional questions, please contact us at .
