Battle of the bridge
Almost before he knew it, the High Lord Demetrios was in among the enemy cavalry, his huge stallion easily bowling over their smaller, lighter mounts.
Then, suddenly, an ax split his stallion’s skull, and Demetrios found himself afoot in the midst of a cavalry engagement. Caught in a deadly dangerous position, and with his badly depleted Confederation troops being forced step by step back across the bridge, there was only one thing for him to do.
As a lancer thundered down upon him, Demetrios avoided the lance point, grasped the shaft, and jerked. Then, while the foeman was still unbalanced, he grabbed the right foot and heaved, then clawed his way up into the empty saddle, and spurred his new mount forward in a frantic attempt to rejoin his own army...
