Like moths to a candle flame, the strange, colorless beings of the Twilight Dimension are drawn to the bright vitality of mankind’s world. They mean no harm; they are merely curious. Now, though, the persecutors are about to encounter a more formidable adversary. Charn is the personal emissary of the twilight queen, on a mission to trace the fate of her son, who vanished in the human world years ago. He finds an ally in the intellectual but unworldly Calliope Agate. But Calliope’s father is a physician-scientist, with a burning ambition to capture a living twilight creature for his researches. Calliope’s loyalties are torn, and Charn does not know if she can truly be trusted. But he has real power—and no compunction about using it against her if the need should arise.
